 THE
NEW JACK HIPPIES Bluesguy's Birthday Jam They had
come to pay tribute
to a Texas legend on his 50th birthday. It was quite a concert! Gloria
Edwards,
'the soul queen of
Texas', sang one of Guy's songs. Calvin Owens, who was B.B.
King 's
band leader for 30
years, couldn't wait to blow trumpet on one of Guy's 14 chord blues ballads,
and was
introduced so
spontaneously that the local radio jock couldn't get to the stage in time for a
proper
introduction. E.P.
Vallejo, Kool B, Jimmy Deen.... They were all there -
rockers,
rappers, bluesmen,
folkies and every type of musician, entertainer and songwriter one could
imagine.
Guy Schwartz
had worked with them all, and anyone could tell that he was enjoying the
party! -

BLUESGUY & THE NEW
JACK
HIPPIES Blue Jack
Hippies Guy Schwartz' first blues album, filled
with blues,
rhythm & blues,
and rockin' blues!"Hailing from the Houston area, Bluesguy
Schwartz and the
New Jack Hippies soundly continue the tradition with a CD full of good
rocking and
low-down blues
plus inspired R&B. Featuring guest vocalists Gloria Edwards (hell
of a voice!)
and Heath
Spencer Phillip, the New Jack Hippies deliver a nice mix of 12 tunes on
Blue Jack
Hippies. Through
nicely wrought harmonies and capable lead work by Guy Schwartz, these
guys (and one
girl) raise some
Texas dust. Song highlights include the contemporary blues of "Under
Suspicion," Ms.
Edwards's very cool
blues vocals on "Ain't Got Time for the Blues," with some interesting horn
arrangements
which fits the
song like a well worn glove, and their tribute song to Houston radio station
KPFT, "Sunday is Our
Time (for the Blues)." ... Mr. Phillip belts out "Since My Baby Went Away"
with an
honest emotion rarely
found these days. A novelty tune in "Right Now" sounds like the tune was
recorded off
an antique radio
from the 40s. Very interesting. All tunes were written or co-written by
Schwartz. Nicely
done." -

Live In Texas What do you get when you cross the Queen of Texas
Soul with
Texas' premiere
Blues Rock Hippie Jam Band?
Just 2 weeks home from their 45 city tour in the winter of 2001-2002, the
New Jack
Hippies and Gloria
Edwards played in tiny Seabrook by the Bay, and rocked the boathouse! It's
all live and
spontaneous, even
when the band is interrupted by Santana on a loud jukebox - and then
chooses to jam with
the Santana
song!

 LITTLE
JOE
WASHINGTON
with THE NEW JACK HIPPIES Earthwire Blue "It was a
cool day in a
warm Houston,
Texas winter when Michael Farber and Kingfish Keith
hosted Texas
wildman
guitarslinger Little Joe Washington for a live webcast on The Hour
of Truth and
Texas Music at
Houston's earthwire.net's performance space and web-radio station. Guy
Schwartz &
The New Jack
Hippies were there
to try to keep up with Little Joe!
The results were magic! This is spontaneous Texas blues, performed by a
master
showman and a band of
Texas blues veterans." -Guillermo Slazo, Texas Music

 HEATH
SPENCER PHILIP Old Brown Eyes Has Left The
Building "Counting
Jackie
Wilson, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Jimi
Hendrix,
Dwight
Yoakum and Elvis Presley amongst his major influences...
(Heath is) a
uniquely dynamic,
high-energy entertainer, with a big voice and an equally large vocal range.
The fact that
he's one of two or
three of the hardest working frontmen this reporter has ever seen does not
hurt the total
package... He's only just begun writing songs, but this collection
features songs by
Guy
Schwartz & Roger Tausz, as well as covers of several classics
by Heath's
major
influences." -Guillermo Slazo, Texas Music News

 GUY
SCHWARTZ Emotional Inconvenience "Calling this outfit a
jam band may
be
accurate, but it's not complete. The multi-faceted Hippies take their cues
from the
compact disciplined
stylings of bands like The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Little
Feat and
War, in
addition to the likes of Phish and The Dead. If anything,
call The
New Jack
Hippies a well-rehearsed jam band! And, as good as this band sounds
on disc, it's
usually more
effective in a live setting - preferably under the sun with a cold beer in
hand."
- Bob Ruggiero, New Times Newspapers The
Whole
Review
"Pulling from the great genre pool, The New Jack Hippies are a
unique spin on
bluesy, jam-style
rock. Eclectic from the very sense of the word, the often large
conglomeration of
musicians is remarkably
creative and cohesive."

KOOL B, OPIE, &
BLUESGUY The
Sun's Gonna Rise
Before I Get To
Texas "Martin (the president of earthwire.net) points with pride the
collaboration between street
poet/rapper Kool B, veteran bluesman Guy Schwartz and
hellbilly
Opie Hendrix
as a blueprint for the future. The three first jammed together at Earthwire,
and later made
a live CD that
they recorded at KPFT. "That was a definitive Houston sound," he says.
"One that's not
like Dallas or
Austin. It includes hippie blues guys, hip-hop guys and psychedelic country
guys. People
here need to get
past their cliquishness and that old 'That ain't my kind of music' bullshit and
see value in
each other and
collaborate." - John Nova Lomax, Houston Press"Spoken
word with
acoustic music, all
created spontaneously by a truly unexpected group of collaborators! Who
knew?" -

 THE
WANDERING
POETS The
Wandering Poets After the succesful collaboration with Kool
B,
Guy Schwartz
arranged to do it again, with even more participants. Poets Dizzy,
Mikey and Jody
Perry join Bluesguy and Kool B for a live poetry
slam, and then
the track was taken
home for musical embellishment by Stephen Bogle (The Hunger) ,
Chaz
Nagede,
Guy Schwartz and with jams from The New Jack Hippies
tour.
